Feeding Dreams

Let the past no longer hurt,
Find the future you deserve;
Time will slow, Time will curve,
Excavate your universe.

Feeding dreams where water fills
Cactii on soul windowsills;
Their fame to take, then to kill,
Turning chervil into dill.

Propel a ferry, heads are down,
Underwater rusted crown;
Now the orb’s entrusted too,
Solo shoot into the new.

Whitehorse

A headful of future, lesser the happened,
Helpless and hapless, a past still unfathomed;
I assumed my own death, ineffably seamless –
Life passed me by, recurringly dreamless.

A handful of future, brighter the tearless,
Time observed Her curse in a helix;
Manoeuvres of Grace, abased are the fearless,
Measured in friendships, kinship and feelings.

Open Verdict

I can see how it happens.
We have no need for oracles
Or, defeated, a dragon’s gizzard;
Sharper than a horse’s heart,
Thoughts pouring from a blizzard.

His better name then excavated,
His blood to poison changed;
His sadness – clouds, coagulated,
Their shrouding sutures elevated,
All futures rearranged.

Aftermath, less miracles –
Answerless, no explanations;
Denials instead, and driverless,
We move between our stations.

I Give The World Back To Nature

I give the world back to nature;
A waxwing with a breast of songs
Calibrates my credences,
Re-writes years of wrongs.

If gnostics, also stoics feared,
Divined this branch’s end,
What other laws acceded to
Make tools for our amends.

I give the world back to nature:
Conjugate, Platonic fox –
Milk may curdle, wood will rot –
As brambles smother brickwork clocks.

All my beliefs retreat in nature,
Moorland horses, forest boars;
Language seldom for relief
Nor remedies the source.

I watched a guru wash a lake,
His oily face was aged and cragged;
Flowing ocean, growing marsh,
Have me slowly backwards dragged.

Gadolinium

I found a subtle place
Before your grave,
Indelible solitude,
Quintessential quiet,
Ego-traced and
Silenced,
Where Time and her sublime
And graceful sister Space
Were finally disproved,
A vision overcame
My diurnal self,
My empty-bottled body,
A vision of dark matter
Now made illuminated
Capillaries with
Cores of fire,
A galaxy’s whole aorta
Belched and splattered
Purples, yellow-golds,
A gadolinium ink,
A causeway,
A moment only
Enduring centuries.

Within this vision
I could see how roads
Rejoin that which science
Deceived
With industry
To disconnect our planets;
A wounded view,
Instead those old contusions
Are now piers where
Truth blooms perpetually.
I could see the infinite ways,
Like roots from Yggdrasil
Alighting shoots to
Embassies on Jupiter,
Grand statues with
Sandy orange knees
Standing high above me,
And on to gloomy Saturn.

You will walk that distance
When my mind is composting,
It’s only a million miles a day;
Find Jovian moons in a year,
Then light the higher way,
Return what once was far
From life, and icy cold,
To what is now revived,
Nearby, dear selflessness,
And finally in reach.

The Temple

One day all this will end,
Futile as the Sea to consider
Existence when the
Weeds reclaim the roads,
And far offshore offload
Post-coastline,
Fossils of litter
And a piece that once glittered
On the most beautiful chest
And wrest from the wrist
In swells and scallops
Of circadian
Harmonies.
The Sea then, endures,
Whole cities gone,
And even the parables
And phrases
Of sacred texts became
Little more than plankton
In the bellies
Of mammals with gills
And dreams about fish,
And ancient revenge
By growing two legs,
Just as ours were then, upright,
Two feet, unhindered by water
And waves thirty years
In their making and
As steep as Athena’s temples
And her garlanded head.
Irreparable trust,
Covenants rust
On the Sea bed
With traffic lights
Stuck on red,
And where once there were highways,
Rivers instead,
And then, a watershed.

And yet I would sacrifice
And trade
Ten oceanic years,
Arduous, longer
Than man-made metrics
Of time and place
And longer again,
For a day in the shade
Of my one beloved,
My one true friend.

Once Or Twice

A deeper life,
An appropriate life,
Days mixed like blends
In Chinese Five Spice.

A meaningful life,
Enriching life,
All sounds entincing
If once, or twice.

Repeated as dreams
Repeat these beating
Hearts, our living surf,
But diving deeply

Only serves for purposes
Of strange, unusual shapes
And species, brings up
Forms untouched by rain

Or sleet or snow on my
Tongue, then leaves me
With a pressurised head,
And a moment of hurt.
